As part of the McRobert Tournament this weekend Edinburgh City played the Granite City Gladiators. After a hard fought game against Glasgow Uni an obviously tired Edinburgh took to the field against the Gladiators.
The first quarter was close with the fresh Gladiators matching the excellent individual play of a tired Edinburgh side. Edinburgh’s first goal came from a beautiful dodge by Marty Crawford. The Gladiators kept the game tight catching Edinburgh on the break. Score at the end of the first quarter Edinburgh City 3 – 2 Granite City Gladiators.
Edinburgh’s strong team spirit started to show in the second quarter as Edinburgh started to extend their lead. Ending the half with some great team plays and a 5 – 3 lead.
The second half started slowly with an uneventful third quarter in which both teams failed to score. However Edinburgh closed out the game with three excellent team goals. The first of which came from a stunning fast break. This goal was goal was particularly notable as it was the 100th goal that Edinburgh has scored this season. Final score Edinburgh City 8 – 3 Granite City Gladiators.
Thanks to the Granite City Gladiators for making the trip down especially with all the car trouble they had. Also big thank you to our referees Rob Powell and Josh Bamford.
